I thought, does this woman have any loyalty to her own family? Does she have any self-respect? How much abuse will she take and still come back grinning and faking? Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6373804891656164472.post-79258764997424328602017-09-03T19:00:22.326-04:002017-09-03T19:00:22.326-04:00Elinor had no problem telling lies and wasn't ...Elinor had no problem telling lies and wasn't an honest person. Her mother and sister repeatedly inquired about her feelings and she repeatedly lied and pretended to be fine. Yet she would go off alone and mope and pine. Elinor had no qualms about lying to Marianne when Marianne inquired about the content of Elinor's long discussion with Lucy Steele. She was keeping her word to a stranger but lying to her beloved sister.
Elinor accepted emotional abuse from others and she expected her family members to do the same. Elinor would "correct" them when they offered any type of retort or resistance to the emotional abuse. For instance, when Fanny blatantly insulted them at the dinner table regarding the dinnerware. Marianne rightfully gave it back to her. Elinor tells Marianne that "you can't say things like that to their faces". Oh, but they can say nasty, hurtful things to you with no consequences? Give me a break.
Elinor had more concern about the feelings of strangers and society than she did about herself and her own family members.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6373804891656164472.post-27226850603017443032013-10-08T03:03:03.810-04:002013-10-08T03:03:03.810-04:00What are Elinor's personal flaws? She also has this thing about putting other's needs above her own which I greatly admire, but also find a tad annoying at times.

I have loved all the portrayals of this character that I have watched, but Hattie Morahan's far and away surpassed my expectations :)Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6373804891656164472.post-39225817108383815992012-03-18T02:03:56.502-04:002012-03-18T02:03:56.502-04:00I am also Elinor. I am the oldest, but I am Marianne, and she has implied that she has had to take care of me at times. The line that describes us so perfectly is, "Nor I," answered Marianne with energy,"our situations then are alike. Don't worry, now I am cheerfully eating my words. Melody is quite right to persuade you to watch the 2008 miniseries. Its Marianne is not to be borne but Hattie Morahan makes an excellent Elinor with a practical humor all her own.Mariahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02297989443217404313noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6373804891656164472.post-79584113325793225182012-03-01T10:12:23.608-05:002012-03-01T10:12:23.608-05:00I loved reading this post.

Although I should probably put it in anyway. ;)
Colonel Brandon's carrying Marianne home is my mom's favorite scene too.

Payton,
I know, she has waaaay too much self-control to do that. Almost as good as my very favorite scene, when Colonel Brandon carries Marianne home in the rain. Sigh.

Really enjoyed the post. You know we Mariannes do wish that we could be as...controlled as you Elinors are. Really. :-D And yes, for the record - Marianne was a bit out of hand in the story. Badly done, Marianne.

And I KNOWWWWWWW. Secrets are NO FUN if you can't share them with a bestie. Know that from experience. :-D I hate Lucy Steele soooo much.

And I do know how to get that inner joy-to-no-moderation going in ya. :-P Fun, fun...

~From another Marianne. :-)Alexandrahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17437117457544744702noreply@blogger.com
