Several facts:
Yes, Aaron Tveit was the perfect Enjolras, Samantha Barks was an incredible Eponine, Courfeyrac is an actual muffin (Enj is the best though), Gavroche is a perfect little bean child, and you bet your life Enjolras wasn't looking at Marius in that one scene....
I was so happy to find that you ship E/E because there is nothing more perfect than Enjonine *Cries* *Remembers Enjolras' death and cries some more* *remembers the beautiful ending and melts down into a blob that no longer qualifies as human*
One last thing: When Eponine dies, ENJOLRAS CRIES.
HE. CRIES.
Let's let that sink in, shall we?Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16467111268165007441noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6373804891656164472.post-11444021291158052772014-06-18T01:58:38.411-04:002014-06-18T01:58:38.411-04:00My only real complaint is that in the song, "...My only real complaint is that in the song, "A Little Fall of Rain" they cut out the second verse. "I'll sleep in your embrace at last." How do you cut that part out? That was all Eponine ever wanted!!
Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6373804891656164472.post-80222283869430601502014-01-08T07:01:26.577-05:002014-01-08T07:01:26.577-05:00I can say I agree with most of this. Killian is just forever my Combeferre (a huge thing considering he's long been my favourite), and the same goes for Fra and Courfeyrac, though with Grantaire I must confess that as much as I love George, he's just not got the same R-ness as Hadley or Adam Linstead.

Am I the only person who noticed that Feuilly was missed though? Bahorel, who's not even in the musical (sob sob), is in the list, but poor Feuilly was missed. Poor guy's already lost his lines from Do You Hear The People Sing. I must confess he's also a particular favourite, and Gabriel Vick did a great job of playing him.shelnynoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6373804891656164472.post-82021272123313766562013-08-02T17:25:14.529-04:002013-08-02T17:25:14.529-04:00Why does everyone love Enjie? But Eponine and Enjolras ship? Not cool, man. Enjie was supposed to die alone. *cough* Or with me. *cough* But great review. I loved Les Miserables. Javert... not so much. In the movie theater when Javert was about to fall my sister pretended to push him over the edge it was so funny! I also feel sorry for Joly. He probably thinks he has some sort of disease now. I really enjoyed all of your Les Mis posts! :D I'm a huge fan :) Before I saw the movie-- I did a facebook challenge to take every Les Mis quiz because a facebook friend of mine was doing it and I was like "I'm going to see the movie, haven't read the book yet-- so let's see..." I kept getting "Enjolras" on every single one. I had no clue at the time who Enjolras was, so out of curiousity- I downloaded the book to my IPod and feel in love with it! Weeks later I saw the movie ;) Anyway-- that was my Les Mis story.
You know Rachel Heffington? I know her also! :) From Generation Joshua, we were both staffing at IGovern East 2013 and I saw her on the March for Life.Freedomlover16https://www.blogger.com/profile/06557159228420116773noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6373804891656164472.post-11584020829933737962013-07-11T17:19:24.096-04:002013-07-11T17:19:24.096-04:00Loving the detailed, make-you-think reviews so far...Loving the detailed, make-you-think reviews so far!! And thanks for helping me get the Barricade Boys straightened out :)

AAAHHH, Gavroche is adorable and I love the Gavroche/Courfeyrac relationship as well. Almost brotherly, in a way. sigh...so sweet.
And I definitely am with you on the Enjolras/Eponine idea there. Again, I agree w...Still loving your lengthy review! Again, I agree with almost everything you've said so far.

Yep Aaron Tveit is the best Enjolras now, although I have still have much love for Michael Maguire's Enjolras and David Thaxton's Enjolras. Hmm, I've never understood the whole Eponine/Enjolras shipping thing. Enjolras is asexual like Sherlock Holmes and I find that aspect of his character absolutely fascinating. Yes his asexuality isn't really mentioned in the musical but still... it's just not right! I have the same reaction to the whole Sherlock Holmes/Irene Adler shipping thing.

I LOVE Eddie Redmayne's Marius so, so much. Who cares if his jaw sometimes shakes when he uses vibrato?! Not me! He still gives a wonderful performance and he IS my favourite Marius now. I do adore Michael Ball's voice of course but Marius is actually my favourite character in the book. I'll go for a brilliantly-acted and very book accurate version of the character over a brilliant musical interpretation of the character any day. And Redmayne's Empty Chairs at Empty Tables was just so amazing and he acted the character so, so well.

I'm with Alexandra on Anne Hathaway deserving the Best Supporting Actress nod at the Oscars over Samantha Barks. As brilliant as Barks is in this movie I wouldn't say that Eponine is a particularly challenging role for an actress. I don't think it's a role that would push you to your very limits like the role of Fantine. I know you'll have a WONDERFUL time. :):):)

I read the first sentence...SQUEAL. Gavroche was SO CUTE.
...By the way, Alexandra, did you happen to find my Daniel-Huttlestone-doesn't-look-like-Gavroche poster while you were hunting for your receipt? If so, please return it.
The Aaron Tveit pictures...do. not. apologize.
A voice like JUSTIN BIEBER?? You have GOT to be kidding...Justin Bieber doesn't sound like Aaron Tveit. As I'm sure you already know. ;)
"Also he's a really good singer."
Yes. So true. True for every one of the awesome Barricade Boys. :)
Furniture...the rain of furniture was SO COOL. And Courf was just awesomely awesome, and that is that.
Ah, Combeferre...my second-favorite Barricade Boy. If you don't count Gavroche and Eponine...but whatever.
Combeferre was sort of un-noticeable, in my opinion...but what little I saw I liked all right.
Grantaire...I sort of despised Grantaire until the end...when he died with Enjolras, though- well, somebody should start a company where they take back all outdated Les Mis opinions. They'd have a big business, I can tell you.
Joly was "just adorable." You hit on exactly the right words. Plus he was awesomely awesome...I seem to have caught the use-the-same-words-over-and-over bug.
Jehan...my favorite barricade boy...when he pounded on the doors at the end, he made me cry even harder than I was crying already.
Alistair Brammer did a PERFECT job. Like everyone else you review in Part 2. Here comes another TSP quote...
To be honest, I didn't even really notice Bahorel or Bossuet all that much- ah well.
Unnamed Guy...was mysteriously awesome. ;)
"Everyone's favorite loser." How well you put things, Miss Dashwood. :)
He was good...I think he could have projected more occasionally, but otherwise he did a great job. And whenever he faltered, I compared him to Nick Jonas...all of a sudden Eddie Redmayne didn't seem so bad. ;)
'Ponine is my favorite character...and I agree with you totally that Samantha Barks captured Eponine perfectly. I still enjoy listening to Kaho Shimada's voice more, although Barks is no doubt the better singer...but since I am unable to watch her sing "On My Own" live, I will say that Samantha Barks is probably the better Eponine. Her style of acting did sort of remind me of Anthony Andrews'...
And she is extremely pretty.
They cut up her verses way too much, IMO, but whatever. She sang the non-rhyming ones so well, I didn't even notice...;)
Cosette was so cute and pretty and one thing I especially liked was that she seemed so grateful and loving to Jean Valjean. Unlike some of the other Cosettes, she seemed SO torn up when he died- almost hysterical- and she was always respectful when she interacted with him. Amanda Seyfried boosted Cosette way up on my list of favorite Les Mis characters...and she's so SWEET! Sweet sweet sweet sweet sweet...wait, did I already say that?...Never mind. She was a great Cosette.
Her voice made a bad impression on me at first, but it grew on me. Now it seems like the perfect voice for Cosette...sort of naive, with a fast vibrato...definitely like rippling water. Plus, yeah, she and Marius are very cute together.
Enjolras/Eponine does seem like the perfect ship...but on second thought, I'd rather pair Eponine with someone like Combeferre...someone who could provide the father figure she needed so much as well as a husband. Enjolras would maybe be too...I don't know, sort of all over the place trying to form a revolution...either that or he'd be completely crushed. Either way, Eponine would end up feeling lonely and neglected.
Well, those are my thoughts. Great review!! :)
Miss Jane Bennethttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12990860661370730793noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6373804891656164472.post-14247650871589520402013-07-09T12:41:31.778-04:002013-07-09T12:41:31.778-04:00In Which I Ralize That I Just Posted That Huge Com...In Which I Ralize That I Just Posted That Huge Comment Whilst My Sister Emily Was Still Signed It.

Sorry 'bout that.Haydenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03463147465564735374noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6373804891656164472.post-34569390259813839092013-07-09T12:38:43.055-04:002013-07-09T12:38:43.055-04:00I will rant right along with you at "Drink Wi...I will rant right along with you at "Drink With Me" I was like, SERIOUSLY??? I now think him very easy on the eyes. And his voice: WOW. I repeat: WOW. Though my 10-year-old little sister thinks differently... the first time she heard him sing (being used to Nick Jonas's 25th Anniversary rendition), she told me Eddie's voice was too rich and manly!

Yes! I melted! Every single adorable Marius/Cosette moment, I melted into sighing goo. <3

*Joins Miss Dashwood in giving laud to Samantha Barks* NO ONE ELSE could possibly play her. Nope. Even in the 25th Anniversary concert, Samantha floored me. But in the movie, good heavens, she was unearthly perfect. Definitely didn't have enough screen time! (Of course, I say that about every character... but, I don't think a six hour movie sounds that awful!)

Lovely doesn't even begin to describe Amanda Seyfried (another who I was skeptical of - oh dear, I seem to have been suspicious of nearly everyone!). She IS Cosette. I can't imagine anyone else's face for Cosette. I've always felt that Cosette gets quite the short shrift in the musical - she should have had her own big solo or something - but Amanda did wonders with the limiting part, and I loved her to pieces. She portrayed her relationship with both Valjean and Marius so beautifully and made me wish (again) that she had more screen time.

Hahaha! I didn't exactly get chills from Javert's random collaring of Gavroche. More like a giggle. Russell Crowe gave me several giggles throughout the movie with some of his seemingly-random acting choices (like the sad face after Valjean's "yours is not a face I would forget" line. *snort*).

Ha! You and your Nick Jonas ideas! *snicker* Poor guy.

YESYESYES. Red and Black. Ohhhhh, I was so pumped for that song! EVERY ONE of the boys was fabulous. Marius with his adorable puppy-ishness and Enjolras with his guys-we-have-serious-stuff-to-do face and Grantaire's swag and Joly's funny face. And can we give a moment of appreciation for the way Aaron pronounces Lamarque? Good.

Yeessss! Enjolras's tears! I did see them! *wants to hug Enjo*
*...*
*more that she usually does*

Ah HA! So it is true. Just as I suspected, thou Enjolras/Eponine-er!

IN MY LIFE! Best "In my Life" EVAH.

What? What is this? *googles les mis vogue interview* WHAT? What is humorous? I can't find the interview... this could spell disaster for my night's sleep! If I ever get to it, that is.

Hee! Hee! Lea Salonga's TAC scream - patent pending.

Now, on the subject of cutting lines, I am SO glad they cut Cosette's "That my my cry you hear, Papa" part. I've always STRONGLY disliked that she lies to Valjean right there. So wrong! And unnecessary. But the movie delightfully snipped that bit right out.

Such a strange feeling to say that I appreciated a movie leaving something out! How bizarre! (typed in Marguerite's voice)

"On My Own" was all I ever hoped it would be. Samantha, when do you ever not deliver perfection? That's what I want to know. OMO hasn't made me cry for quite a while now - I got used to Eponine's loneliness and despair, but this brought it all painfully fresh and real. I can HEAR her heart breaking in her voice.

"One Day More" is very possibly my all-time favorite Les Mis song. AND THIS VERSION WAS WORTH EVERY MINUTE I HAD TO WAIT FOR IT.

*dissolves into giggles at the idea of Joly fumigating himself* You are too much, Miss Dashwood. =D

On a side note, I am quite envious of land lady of the Cafe Musain. ;] I wouldn't mind being her in that scene. She gets a kiss from nearly every single of my dear boys!

Oh, have a MARVELOUS time with Melody. Of course you will. I'm so delighted for you!

Now I really must get to bed. Forgive my sleep-deprived nonsense if it made no sense at all. But I simply could NOT repair to bed without comment. Out of the question.

Good night!Caroline L.https://www.blogger.com/profile/02810825794317183034noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6373804891656164472.post-90806924788703259962013-07-09T02:25:18.415-04:002013-07-09T02:25:18.415-04:00PART ONE. (Because I was too long-winded) Okay, first off, I reeeeally should be in bed, but I'm just so excited about your post that I can't help but read it all and comment! And, yes, it will be squeal-y and fangirly. If ONLY because you started out with an Enjolras quote and an Aaron .gif! EEEP! =D

Oh yes! Gavroche was perfect. Such a darling! But still tough and self-reliant. Daniel is my new favorite Gavroche as well now!

Hmmm... there were scenes filmed with more Gavroche and Courfeyrac sweetness?! Should we get up a petition to beg Tom Hooper to release all the deleted scenes?

Hehehe... of COURSE Enjolras is naturally Barricade Boy number one. ;] Posilutely. And, nope. Not too many pictures of him. Never too many Aaronjolras photos. Ever. *siiiiigh*

And I cannot tell you how lovely is(and how much I agree with) your description of his character. Aaron Tveit NAILED the part to perfection. My memory may be a tad stronger than yours (hee hee), as I do have vague, hazy memories of disappoint when Ramin Karimloo was not cast. I had no idea who Aaron was, but from the earliest set photos, I thought he looked like a pouty grouch in a ridiculous wig! I have since repented (and now hold great fondness for said wig). I can't decide if he has eclipsed Ramin or not, but he is definitely veeeeery close! Aaron was fabulous! Hair, voice, everything. I got SO excited when I opened my DVD for the first time and popped it in, and THERE HE WAS. About had a heart-attack before I even hit play. I should stop now before I hurt myself.

Awwwww! Fra Fee! I can not imagine anyone else as Courfeyrac now as I'm finishing the Brick. And who could possibly refuse his request for furniture with that accent? =]

Oh! I LOVED Killian's portrayal of Combeferre. So sweet and concerned and protective. And when he tries to shield the others upstairs....

*composes self*

Depend upon it, I will be ranting about "Drink with Me" right along with you! George Blagden succeeded in making me like him muchly, despite his great disadvantage of not being Hadley Fraser. Indeed, so good that I wish he had more screen time! Without his solo in DWM, there is not enough time to get to know him before his heroic end. But what little time he did have was fantastic. Bravo Blagden!

Hee hee! Sweet Joly! Hugh's facial expressions are PRICELESS! I can just see him as Joly, examining himself for symptoms or getting panicky because he has a cold.

JEHAN! No ONE, bar NONE could play his as well as Alistair.

AH! YES! The Young Revolutionaries clip!!!! So much SQUEE packed into those 7 short minutes!!! I approve. Most scientific.
Firs...Very nice post. I approve. Most scientific.

First, you can never have too many Aaron pics. And he is the best Enjo IMO. Ramin will always be all kinds of awesomeness Enjo because he is all kinds of awesomeness period (hello, Phantom!), but Aaron really made Enjo real and human and almost relatable. And as I've said before and you said, he was the first Enjo to make the "who cares about your lonely soul" line *not* sound like he was being a total jerk.

And he's Aaron. And I've been overloading on Aaron lately. Ohhappyday.

Um, what else...

Nice barricade boys...I've never been into them outside of Enjo and Marius, but I liked your stuffs there.

Eddie was marvelous...no, he wasn't MB, but who is? MB. Cough. My mom thought he wasn't as masculine as MB made Marius out to be, but I liked him. We're not supposed to love him the way we love Enjo, anyway. *cough*

Agree on Cosette...and SAMANTHA!!!! Wooooooot. Fun Trivia: I didn't like her in the 25th, and when I heard she was Eponine I was like, oh, meh. And then I saw her and everything I ever said about her I took back. Found your receipt, by the way, when I was rooting around for mine. You're welcome.

ENJO WAAAAAS LOOKING AT EPONINE. I fiiiiiiiiiiiiiirmly believe that. And we will go downnnnn with this ship. Never let go. Promise you'll never let go. Down we go. Bubbles, bubbles! So much Enjo/Eponine/Aaron/Samantha love. As you know. ;)

BUT. You have spoken HERESY when you almost wish that Samantha had won instead of Anne. GIRL. I was just talking about this with my brother today. I *liked* that they gave Fantine soooo much development, even if it did mean Eponine was cut a bit. I get a bit ticked (not at you...hehe) that Fantine is a minor character and Eponine gets all the love always (until Anne Hathaway did right by her)...like the fact that Eponine always manages to get an "On My Own" spot in Les Mis concert stuff... because there would be no story without Fantine. Eponine is sweet and tragic and everything, but Fantine is the foundation of the entire story. BTW...have you ever seen the painting of angel Fantine comforting prostitute Fantine with the "Come with me, where chains will never bind you" line? *SOB* it's awesome. Anyway. *deep breath*. I forgive you. :-P

And that Javert scream is one of the best Les Mis jokes EVER.

AARONAARONAARON....

And the One Day More was epicness. Anyhooooz. Aaron was perfect...

Happy. Happy. Happy. :)Alexandrahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17437117457544744702noreply@blogger.com
