I'll confess I was a bit disappointed when I saw that #14 had been picked and that I'd be reading one of the books in my ho-hum section-- and to be honest, I'm a little scared to attempt this book. But I said I'd abide by the rules, and abide by the rules I will. Animal Farm wasn't that bad, after all-- I can survive 1984.
What did you end up with, now that the spin has spun?
I got For Whom the Bell Tolls by Hemingway. Heh. Ho-ho. Hum. Not sure what I think yet. :P

I despised Animal Farm myself, as you know... :P Ooh, hey, you know, 1984 is the book the essay contest at Penguin Classics is doing this year (remember how last year was Emma)? Supposed to be postmarked by April 15th.
ReplyDeleteNot that you necessarily want to write an essay. :P But the scholarship is a check, sooo... you could just use it for something to 'further your education' that isn't college. (A trip to England, perhaps? Oh wait, wouldn't be enough for that... well anyways.)
As for meeee, I got Pygmalion. So I'm not brokenhearted. :D 'Tis actually something I was looking forward to and this is good incentive to actually read it. Heehee.
LOL! It seems that everyone I've read about so far got their ho-hum books... I know I did. #14 for me was Good Wives. Not too bad, but I'm not dying to read it!
ReplyDeleteI'm glad to hear that Animal Farm isn't that bad because I have to read it for school this semester :) Although I think I'll probably like it better than John Milton, Dante, or John Locke, which are some of the other authors I've read this year :)

I've read part of 1984, and all of Animal Farm, and while I can't say I liked them, they gave me pause to think.
ReplyDeleteJust a warning though, there will be parts that you may want to skip over ... be wary when Julie(a?) get the MC (whose name I'm pulling a blank on) alone. Her sash is just for show. I don't know how many details are given, since that's one of the parts I skipped over.
I never could finish Animal Farm, but I did enjoy reading 1984 a few years ago. My spin list winner was Pride and Prejudice.
