Two Are Better Than One

"I do not pretend to understand the nature of friendship between men, Dr. Marshland, but surely in its better points it resembles that between women. "
~Mary Smith, Cranford

"So I hear you're going on vacation this spring!" my friend Jenny said to me the other day.

I can never hold back the grin that comes to my face when this topic comes up.  "Yep, I'm off to State-That-Is-Far-Away-From-Here again. For two whole weeks!  Which is great, because by then it'll have been more than seven months since I saw Melody and I'll be in need of another Dose of Best Friend."

"That's going to be so fun," she said.  "So you're staying with her family?  And your mom said you're going to the Pacific coast, right?"

"Yeah, her family's being unbelievably sweet and letting me tag along on their vacation," said I, grinning even wider and probably resembling the Cheshire Cat.  "You have no idea how much I've been looking forward to this.  I seriously can't wait."

"I guess it's kind of like having cousins out there," she said, considering.  "I mean, like extended family that you'd go and visit.  You guys must be pretty close."

You could say that.  :D  In fact, you could say a lot of things about Melody and me-- the phrase that her mom used once, "the two of you are like sisters, except a little bit better" is one of the best of the lot.  For the past three and a half years our relationship's strengthened more and more, and I don't hesitate to refer to my best friend as my twin sister anymore.  We don't have the same biological parents or the same birthday, but she's part of my family now and I'm part of hers and the two of us are separated only by a very large number of stupid, lengthy miles.

But now? Now I am, to borrow a Melody-ism (I do that a lot) absolutely Full of Squee.  Because now we're in the home stretch again, that delightful period of time directly preceding an Actual Real-Life Visit, and I'm so happy I could SCREAM.

On May 19th, 2015, I shall take a very long plane ride and then sit around in an airport for three hours (yay layovers) and then take a not-so-long plane ride, and around 2 PM I'll be with my favorite person in the whole world (for whom I can thank this very blog, for introducing us in the first place) for two. whole. weeks.  And two days.  I'm not coming home until the FIFTH of JUNE.

Like I said, so excited I could SCREAM.

We have a lot of plans, of course.  Plans that involve drinking lots of tea (as always) and doing some cake decorating (I'll teach her) and going bowling (she'll teach me) and having a yard sale and playing games and going to libraries (she works at one, which is so cool :D) and watching lots of movies (we're currently planning on Death Comes to Pemberley, National Treasure 2, Newsies, Northanger Abbey... hmm, we like movies that start with N, apparently).  Oh, and making a blanket fort and hiding from people, because we're mature young adults.

Aaaaaand we're also going to the Pacific coast.  That is, her family's going on vacation and they're graciously letting me come too.  The two of us have taken day trips together before (and one overnight at my grandmother's house one time) but this will be our first real road trip, and to say we're excited would not only be an understatement, it would be redundant because I've already used that word too many times in this post.

Let's just say I'm elated and very much looking forward to it.

But in the midst of all our fun activities (and hiking and camping-- well, cabin-ing, which is my kind of camping) we'd like to make something fun to put on our blogs (that's how we met in the first place, after all) and that's where you folks come in.

We're planning to make a podcast together, or at least a voice version of a vlog.  (A v-vlog? Nope, too stupid.) With Internet privacy and all that, we decided not to make a video blog together, but we thought it would be fun to put together something like a podcast, perhaps accompanied by a slideshow of pictures or other Visual Aids.  In all modesty (of course), we are rather hilarious when together, and thought the rest of the world should be able to listen to at least one of our conversations and enjoy our hilariousness.  As one does.

So we'd like to answer any questions you might have, and here are some handy-dandy helpful guidelines for that sort of thing.

~Submit anything that you might be curious about, whether about one of us in particular or about the two of us together.  However, if you have a question specifically for Melody, submit it here in the comments of this post.  If you have a question specifically for me, hop over to Melody's blog and leave it in the comments on her post on this same topic.  We won't publish any of the questions just yet (but will let you know when we receive them) so that they'll be fresh when we read them to each other as we make the podcast.  Make sense?
~Ask whatever you like, but we do reserve the right to not answer anything we deem too personal.  ;)
~Jazz it up! Be creative! Feel free to ask the ordinary things like "what's your favorite color?" and "are you for or against flowers in church?" but we encourage you to ask even more interesting things like "which of you would be more likely to run away to New York and pursue the stage?" and "what's the dumbest thing the two of you ever did together?."  (Fair warning-- she might not let me answer that one. Not that I can think of a specific example right off the top of my head, but I'm sure with a little pondering...)
~Make sure your questions are submitted before May 19th! :)
~We shall do our best to answer all the questions in the podcast and get it recorded and published in a timely fashion. Howeverrrrr, there is a slight possibility that the podcast might not get completed during our visit, in which case we shall definitely answer all your questions in a joint blog post and will apologize profusely for not having had enough time to do what we promised.  Because, ya know, life gets busy sometimes. (But we really do want to do this.  It'll be fun.)

Okay, back to the regularly scheduled Sentimental Sap programming... in all seriousness, I am so thrilled to be able to go and see Melody again.  Over the last three and a half years (I'm still a bit mind-boggled that it's been that long!) we've really become like sisters, but even closer than that, and she is truly my other half.  We've been through ups and downs and sadness and joy together now, and had our share of spats (although we've never yet had any actually horrendous fights, just "foofalations" as we call them) and more than our share of communication (ha, if you could see the length of the emails we write to each other... and knew how much time we spend on the phone... heh, heh.  It's a wonder we get anything else done.).

What my friend said about extended family is true, though.  She's become a real part of my family, and not only do I not know what I would do without her, I don't even like to think about the possibility of having to do without her.  She's just the best, you guys. :D

In recent months I've become closer with other members of her family too, and I think I can say truthfully that yes, I am traveling out to see my extended family.  My un-biological family, yes, but extended family nonetheless.  Because Melody's family is an extension of her (so to speak) and she herself is an extension of me, and... you get my drift.  I like her. And her peeps. :D

So!  There you have it.  This exceedingly ramble-y and hyper post now comes to a close, and you are left with the knowledge that Amy and Melody are going to see each other again, a fact which makes the world a better place, duh.  (Because we're self-centered and like to think that way.)

And now I will stop sentimental-ing at you.  (Um, that's totally a verb. Because I said it was.)

“So closely interwoven have been our lives, our purposes, and experiences that, separated, we have a feeling of incompleteness—united, such strength of self-association that no ordinary obstacles, differences, or dangers ever appear to us insurmountable.”
–Elizabeth Cady Stanton

A Big, Grand, Glorious Announcement

Ka-blam.

I tried for a while to come up with a really good sound effect to express how excited I am for this day, and "ka-blam" was the best one I could think of.  "Huzzah" also came to mind but that's probably because I've been steeped in Julius Caesar for the past six weeks-- and you're probably sick of hearing about that by now, so that's why I didn't go with "huzzah."  So "ka-blam" it is.  Ka-blam.

Have I said ka-blam enough?
Good.

Okay, moving forward.

...I can't hold it in any longer.

GUYS I'M CO-PRODUCING A LITERARY WEB SERIES AND I'M FREAKING OUT EXCITED.

It all started back in January, when I started thinking about how much I'd enjoyed several of the literary web series on YouTube, and what a cool way that was to adapt classic works of fiction, and wouldn't it be fun if someone did that with one of my favorite books, The Scarlet Pimpernel.  But then, what if someone decided to adapt TSP into a modern setting with a new storyline and I didn't like it?  What if they weren't true to the spirit of the book and ended up changing everything in horrific ways and absolutely ruined Percy and Marguerite and the League?????

Once I'd calmed down a little, it occurred to me that if I wanted a good modern adaptation of The Scarlet Pimpernel, maybe I needed to write one myself.  And that's how Masked was born.

...Well, a lot more work came after that, of course.  I approached two good friends of mine to ask for help and off we went.  Storyboarding, working out plot holes, character development, scriptwriting, scouting out filming locations, casting, long frustrated phone calls... yeah, it's been a journey.  But now, today, on Julie Andrews' 79th birthday (happy birthday, Mary Poppins!), we've decided it's finally time to announce it to the world.

World, meet Masked, an innovative, online, modern-day film adaptation of Baroness Orczy's The Scarlet Pimpernel.

Masked, look at the world.  Just take a peek for now, of course, because you won't actually be released to the General Public until summer 2015.  (I know, it's a long wait, but patience makes the heart grow anticipatory, or something like that.)

There's a lot more information (including a storyline teaser!) over here at The Day Dream, the Scarlet Pimpernel blog that I help run... and if you want to stay updated even more, please check out the show's official Tumblr, Twitter and Facebook page.

Oh.  And if you'd like to grab this little advertising button for your own blog, that would be splendiferously magnificent and I will be grateful to you forevermore.

Movie Reviews: A Public Service Announcement (and some other stuff)

Oh, look, folks, it's me again, popping in here after three weeks of silence with a measly excuse for a post!  Yay!

Seriously, though, life has been crazy busy and when I do get on the computer, I've been catching up with emails and staying in touch with friends and not actually writing blog posts, and I do apologize for that, but y'all know the drill by now.  I shall be here when I can be, and neither more nor less, and since you're all so splendid, you understand.

Anyways.  However.  I do have a movie review in draft at the moment, one that's amusing me immensely as I write it, and as I'm writing, it occurred to me that there's something I need to make known to the followers of my blog.  I've gotten quite a few comments and emails in recent months from blog readers asking for rundowns on objectionable content in various films and TV shows.

And, though I am generally rather bad at saying this to people, after giving it some thought, I've come to the conclusion that my answer is no.  (But I'm really really sorry to have to say that and I hope you're not offended and please don't hate me.)

Ahem.

The point I'm trying to make is this: Yet Another Period Drama Blog, contrary to what appearances may imply, is not a movie review blog.  It's a personal blog.  A blog for rambling about the movies and books and television shows and fictional characters that I like, with a dash of Lots of Other Things thrown in.  When I "review" a movie, I'm really just sharing my thoughts about the movie and opening up a discussion where others can share their opinions and thoughts. (And sometimes I actually get around to replying to comments!  Woot!)  I'm not trying to provide an objective rundown of the film; I'm just taking any excuse I can to sound off about something I enjoyed. (Or didn't enjoy, as the case may be.)  I am not a professional film critic, nor even an aspiring one.  (That would be a boring job because you DO have to be at least somewhat objective, and I prefer airing my snarky personal opinions.)

In addition, I also don't feel comfortable trying to provide an all-encompassing content advisory for my blog readers.  Very few people share the exact same views on What's Okay and What's Not when they're consuming media (that phrase sounds strangely food-ish), and my opinions as to what makes a movie "passable" and what makes it "objectionable" may be very different from yours.  We're not all cookie cutters, after all.

However, this doesn't mean I won't issue a warning here and there if I feel it would be helpful to my readers-- if a movie has a scene that I usually fast-forward, I'll probably give you a heads-up about that.  Or if my own younger siblings didn't watch a movie with me because it was too intense or adult, I may mention that as a caution if I feel it's appropriate.  But I won't write up a detailed list of every instance in which John Watson says a bad word, or exactly how far down the neckline of Marguerite Blakeney's dress falls.  Deciding whether a movie is worth watching is your own business, not mine, and I'm not going to try to tell you what you can and can't see.  Does that make sense?

Here's the too-long-didn't-read version: YAPDB does not offer content reviews, though I do try to keep the content on this blog as clean and family-friendly as possible.  If you want the lowdown on objectionable stuff, try the IMDb Parents' Guides or any of the multitude of movie-review web sites out there.  (PluggedIn, Common Sense Media and Charity's Place, for example.)

Thanks for bearing with me.  :D

Alsoooooo... don't forget about I'd Like to Share for October!  Please add your nominations in the comments section on the I'd Like to Share page.

Again, sorry for the severe lack of posts on here lately.  I've had a really busy month, not least because of Julius Caesar-- which was incredibly amazing and it ended last night and I'm really really sad it's over because I loved every moment of it.  (Well, I didn't love the times when I got lost driving in the city trying to get to rehearsal with my sisters... but I love my amazing director who stayed on the phone with me and talked me through some confusing one-way streets because he's awesome like that.  Silver linings.)  I really learned a lot-- for instance, Shakespeare is the best, theatre is amazing, actors are hilarious and great and fun to be around, military banners are much heavier and unwieldier than they look, it IS actually possible to do a complete costume change in under 90 seconds, and literally every line in Julius Caesar can be improved if you do it in a muppet voice.  Fact.

(It's a quote from Marc Antony, in case you were wondering, who in our production was played by an incredibly talented actress who doubled as Portia-- yes, we had gender-blind casting, how else do you think I ended up as a snooty butler and a soldier?)

And on that impassioned note I will end this extremely random post.  :)

P.S. Hail Caesar. *falls to her knees enraptured*
P.P.S. He will eat only the finest Turkish caviar.
P.P.P.S.  Major points if you got that last reference.

"If you ask me, Jeeves, art is responsible for most of the trouble in the world."

(Jeeves' Disapproving Face is better than anyone else's Disapproving
Face. Also, wolves are ignorant, and nothing will convince me otherwise.)

Dooooooooon't forget to submit your nominations for the July edition of I'd Like to Share, folks!  It's the comment box right here on this page (don't comment on this post to do it), you get one nomination per customer per month, and remember that it needs to fit into one of the listed categories.  (Miscellaneous is totally a category if you get Stuck, though.)

Also! Don't go away, for I have another announcement to make!  I should like to direct your attention to a brand-new and extremely helpful site that has just made its appearance in the blogging world: the Period Drama Screencap Source.  I'm always on the lookout for good screencaps when I write blog posts of any kind (especially movie reviews) and a delightful high-quality collection is a rare gem.  So this site is, I'm sure, going to prove very useful to me, and to you too.  Plus, if you just want to scroll through pages of Lark Rise to Candleford and look at Daniel Parish's face (which does a good job of being a face), you can totally do that.

So, yeah. Go check it out.

Dreams the way we've planned 'em, if we work in tandem...

If you read my blog with any kind of regularity, you're probably aware of the fact that I'm... uh... a bit of a fangirl.  To name just a few of my fanships, I have a rather strong fondness for a certain author named Jane Austen (and classic literature in general), a bit of an affinity to a certain book &c. known as Les Miserables (the &c. stands for the musical and the movie, of course), a slightly gushy liking for a musical called Phantom of the Opera (and musical theatre in general, too-- shows, performers whose initials are Aaron Tveit, the works), an admiration for a series about The Scarlet Pimpernel (and especially the 1982 movie), a passion for Sherlock Holmes mysteries (plus a mounting desire to see the BBC show), and a great interest in P.G Wodehouse's novels (particularly those of the Jeeves variety, along with the BBC show).

And though you may not realize it, my liking for all those things listed above (well, except Jane Austen... ahemmmmmmmmm) are at least partially the fault of one person.  Because this one person either introduced me to each of those passions or fueled my love of them.  (Can't forget, won't regret, what I did for loooooove...)

You're probably getting quite curious as to who this is, aren't you? (Motel, who IS it?)

Who is it?  It's me, Reb Tevye.

Kidding.

Ladies and gentlemen, I present to you the woman whom you can blame for a great deal of my gushing here on YAPDB (and just to clear the air, I also ask forgiveness for the things I've done you've blamed me for)-- send all letters of complaint to her at her blog if you so desire.  (I have a message, messieurs, from the Opera Ghost.)

Yeah, people, it's pretty much all the fault of Alexandra.  I call her Ally, because I kinda sorta really like her even though she's dragged me into all these obsessions that I would be so much saner without.  I mean, she's hilarious and fun and a kindred spirit and pretty much just all-around awesome.  Ever since I met her through blogging in October 2011 (over two years ago, sheesh!) I've wanted to be able to meet her in person.

Which is why I'm so, so excited about the fact that I'm going to be at her house exactly two months from today.  (Impossible things are happening every day!)  Because apparently, she kinda likes me too. At any rate, she invited me to come visit her for a week, and who could pass that up??? I ask you!  Having tea parties on the ceiling and highly questionable outings of every other kind!   This is indeed an unparalleled delight!  I had rather hoped that I could come, you know.  Guys, I'm going to see Ally live in living color.  How cool is THAT?

We are, obviously, really looking forward to this.

Here's to us! The toast of all the city, such a pity that the Phantom won't be there.  We're going to have seven whole days together-- or perhaps I should say seven short days.  Seven short days, oh there's so much to do... seven short days to have a lifetime of fun.  And we'll be having fun, you bet.  The silly, crazy kind, ya know?

We have all these plans that I'm SO looking forward to (she's going to show me SHERLOCK!  SQUEEEEEE!) and I'm just sitting here being super, super excited. I have almost never felt like this-- I could say for once I'm lost for words, but I'm not really. :P  I'm flying so high right now, defying gravity... let's just hope all our zany togetherness doesn't involve gerbils because something dangerous could happen.  (My dad's allergic and my mom's murophobic-- it's a real thing.)  But no matter what happens, this visit will be great, because there's no fight we cannot win.  Do we fight for the right to a night at the opera now?  *crash* He's HERE! The phantom of the operaaaaaaaa...

Okay, shutting up.  If all those musical quotes haven't driven you away by now, I don't know what will.

The point of this post is to say that I'm going out to visit Ally (and by extension Belle and Alex, who happen to live in the same house-- hi, guys!) on February 11th, 2014, and that I'm doing a happy dance in my head because I'm so thrilled and excited about it.

All right, well, I suppose there's nothing left inside my head (everything that's left to say's been said) so I'll close this post.

And now there are only sixty-two days to wait-- yes, yes, I'm counting.  Do you blame me?

In Which I Explain My Scarcity Around Here Of Late

Hey, look! It’s Richard Armitage! Yeah, over there!

Kidding.
Sorry.

But we had to get your attention some way.  So kindly look back here, and forgive us for fooling you—oh, wait, you’re wondering what the “we” is all about?   “We” refers to Melody and Miss Dashwood, and Melody and Miss Dashwood have an announcement to make.  Which may very possibly include ice cream, so we would like to have your attention.

(Note: There will probably not be ice cream.)

We would like to announce the formation of a musical club, with regular meetings at yours or mine—erm, whoops, wrong club.  We would actually like to announce the formation of the P&P95Forever Club, and you are all invited to join.

Now, right about now some of you are probably clasping both hands to your hearts in a squeal of utter joy at the thought, some of you are glaring and scowling most ferociously, while others of you are saying, “Wait, what?  The P&P95Forever Club?  What’s that?”  Let us endeavor to expline, or if you aren’t accustomed to our Eliza Doolittle method of speech, we shall explain (while the rain in Spain falls mainly in the plain).

Last year, Miss Dashwood wrote a seemingly innocuous review of Pride and Prejudice (1995), hereinafter referred to as P&P95 so we don’t have to bother with italicizing it.  In the aforesaid and abovementioned review, she made a brief joke about how she did not think Colin Firth smiles enough as Mr. Darcy, and hoped that the members of the P&P95Forever Club would not come at her with their DVDs at the ready.  A joke, nothing more than a joke.  (After all, she's a child, only a child.) Melody read the post and left a lengthy comment, as per, in which she only laughed a little over "the Club thing," but tucked the title away in her brain, and at some later point (we are not sure when) mentioned to Amy that a P&P95Forever Club would in all seriousness be quite a marvelous thing. We agreed to begin a blog together, but not just any blog. No, this one would be extra-special—it would be a clubhouse, a place for fans of P&P95 to congregate and learn more about their favorite miniseries.

In June 2012, the great task began.  Together, we began organizing our information, deciding how much to include and where to find our facts.  We began collecting quotes, looking up dance instructions, researching the actors’ other works, organizing links, et cetera and so forth.   Believe us when we say it was a lot of work.  (And perhaps you will accept this as a partial excuse for our lack of posts lately.)

And now, finally, the P&P95Forever Club is opening its doors.  We do not think it is necessary to explain that we think P&P95 is the definitive adaptation of Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice, and that we will stick to this opinion with our last breath, unless the BBC makes another, better, truer-to-the-book adaptation which is highly unlikely. We realize that not everyone shares this opinion, but hey, if you don’t, you are under no pressure to join the Club.  But if you do agree with us that P&P95 is the best on earth (excellent taste you have, by the way) we invite you to join the Club (visit the Become a Member page so we can send you a member button.

If you are a relative newbie to P&P95, do not despair!  One of the purposes of this new site is to provide fans with everything under the sun that they might wish to know about P&P.   At the P&P95Forever Club you will find everything from trivia facts about the production to pages and pages of screencaps to instructions for dancing those lovely dances in the ball scenes.

This blog, however, is not intended to be a stagnant one-visit website.  No, indeed, for we intend to keep it hopping with new posts, games every week, polls and throwdowns and perhaps even opportunities for you to make an appearance!

So please, go explore the blog!  And while you’re there, have compassion on our poor nerves and leave a comment.  This is the express wish of our esteemed patroness, Lady Catherine de Bourgh, and besides which, it adds greatly to our own happiness.

See you there!

"Well, don't just sit there shaking like a leaf. Open it!"

Captioned photo made by my dear friend Melody, who very kindly put up with her
Tween's exuberant, breathless squealing over the phone on Monday night... ahem...
I've been thinking it's high time this blog had a giveaway... don't you agree?

And since Only a Novel by Amy Dashwood has just hit the virtual shelves on Amazon.com, today seems like the perfect time.

I haven't yet run in circles, screaming and shouting, "I'M AN AUTHOR, I'M AN AUTHOR!" a la Jo March, but I must say I'm pretty excited.  (SQUEEEE!)

Okay, okay, so Eponine's not exactly screaming for joy in this pic, but you can pretend she is. :P
I blogged over at The Quest for Stories about my mixed feelings on the subject-- you can read the post here.  It was incredibly thrilling to hold the proof copy in my hands on Monday evening, and now that the book's actually available, I think I'm in a state of semi-shock.

Phew.
So please, check back this afternoon or evening when I'm thinking a bit more clearly, and you can enter to win a copy.  Sink me, I can hardly wait.

This is a pretty good depiction of the mysterious smirk on my face right now. :P
(Oh, and all those of you who might think that I was using this post as a good excuse to share a bunch of my favorite pictures-- I have no idea what you're talking about.  Nope.  Not a bit of it.)

Nine Days More...

...another [week-and-a-half], another destiny...

Recognize the quote?  No? That's probably because I tweaked it too much.  Ahem.

My extremely corny title (and subtitle) is (are) a convoluted paraphrase of the lyrics to One Day More, the finale to Act One in Les Miserables and one of my favorite Les Miz songs ever.  You might ask why I'm quoting that song today, but you probably won't, because I quote (and sing) Les Miserables all the time.  Ask my family. :)

But just in case you ARE asking, I'm quite pleased to tell you that for the past couple of months, Miss Payton (Petie) Wilson and I have been scheming and plotting and putting together a positively diabolical plot. And finally, after about a gazillion emails, some serious fangirling, and way too much fun, we are ready to spring our plot upon you. I am here to announce...

Will You Join In Our Crusade: A Les Miserables Concert Comparison

a blog series by Petie and Amy
June 4-9, 2012

It's going to be an entire week devoted to celebrating Les Miserables, the musical that swept the world.  We'll be discussing our favorite characters, actors and songs from both versions of the concerts(and hopefully getting into juicy debates with our readers, heh heh), and having an altogether delightful time.  The fun begins on June 4th! All Les Miz posts will be published on Petie's blog, Dirt and Dickens, AND right here on Yet Another Period Drama Blog.  (I encourage you to check out both so you don't miss out on any of the fun!)

And now the big question: will you be joining in our crusade? If so, post one of these buttons on your blog and link back to us!

Guest Post and a Teeny-Weeny Hint

Today I'm guest posting over at Abby's lovely blog, Newly Impassioned Soul. If you're interested in reading a movie review about sword fights, pirates, escapes, true love, death and miracles, go here.

Oh, and stay tuned for something exciting that will be appearing here and on another kindred spirit's blog in the beginning of June-- I won't give any details, but if you're curious, think barricades, stolen bread, red flags and puppies.  Guesses may be left in the comments... but I'm not promising answers.  :)

Anne Week is almost here

Just wanted to remind you all that Anne of Green Gables Week is very nearly upon us! *rushes madly around in circles, squealing "NOT READY, NOT READY!"*

I made a miscalculation in my dates, and for that I am very sorry ("soary" in a Gilbert Blythe voice).  Anne Week will not, in actual fact, begin until March 12th.  I know all the buttons and blinkies and whatever say March 11th, but it is not so.  I do apologize!

At any rate, I hope very much to see you all here on Monday, March 12th, when the fun begins.  This week will include...

~a personality quiz
~a guest post from a blogger you know and love
~possibly another guest post from another blogger you know and love
~a quote quiz
~a dream cast
~a movie review
~another movie review
~lots of pictures and ramblings
~blatherings about favorite characters
~tons and tons of romantical, kindred-spirit fun!

Fanfare, Please

Ladeeeeez and... ladies....

Miss Dashwood, your host this afternoon, is pleased, proud, pink-tickled and prunes-and-prismed (er, we won't go there) to announce the Grand Opening of a Brand-New Blog--namely, a collection of literary character profiles for your perusal, instruction, enjoyment and Improvement Of Your Mind!

People of the blogging and Internet world, may I present...

The Assembly Rooms: A Collection of Character Profiles from your favorite period dramas!

Assembly Rooms, the Bloggers.  Charmed.  Pleased. Enraptured.

The founder of this dee-light-full literary haven is the lovely Miss Elizabeth Bennet of Elegance of Fashion.  She is joined by three authors who h'assist 'er in writing the profiles: Miss Laurie of Old-Fashioned Charm, Melody of Regency Delight, and yours truly of this 'ere blog that's taking up your computer screen at the moment.  (I haven't published any profiles yet, but that will hopefully have changed by this time next week.)

Do hop on over and take a look at The Assembly Rooms!
