Quotes of the Week 20

A little note-- I'm wondering how many people are actually reading this blog.  I can see the number of followers, and I can see my stats every day, but I would like to know how many people are really reading the posts.  So if you could take a moment to leave a brief comment (even just a "hey there!") down below, I'd appreciate it.  (And if you wouldn't mind mentioning how you found my blog in the first place, I'd love to hear that too.) De-lurk if you've been lurking! Be brave!

And now for the quotes...

Elizabeth Bennet: I wonder who first discovered the power of poetry in driving away love?
Mr. Darcy: I thought that poetry was the food of love.
Elizabeth Bennet: Of a fine stout love, it may be. But if it is only a vague inclination I'm convinced one poor sonnet will kill it stone dead.
~Pride and Prejudice (2005)

Hyacinth Gibson: I'm sure you will acknowledge that an engagement is an engagement.
Squire Hamley: Did I say an engagement was an elephant, ma'am?
~Wives and Daughters (1999)

There's something delicious about writing those first few words of a story. You can never quite tell where they will take you. Mine took me here, where I belong.
~Beatrix Potter, Miss Potter (2007)

I didn't write a mystery quote this week, and I don't think I will in the future.  As Rachel D. pointed out last week, as soon as one person comments, everyone else has the answer right there in front of her and doesn't have an opportunity to guess for herself.  I could remedy this by not publishing the comments, but I hate having unpublished comments in my Dashboard.  Silly, I know, but then I am rather silly.

Also, I shall be announcing something that excites me greatly on Monday, so stay tuned for that...

Love the first quote about poetry. When I read it in the book, it quite amused me.

And, I read your blog!
I'm fairly new, having come over from Alexandria's blog (Of Trims, Frills, and Furbelows).

I read nearly every post on your blog, and I admire it greatly. I believe I found you through some other period drama blog, which I found through reading a follower's blog roll. :)

Great quotes! I especially like the Beatrix Potter one. Squire Hamley always makes me laugh too! :)

I always read your blog posts and usually try to comment. Sometimes I don't have time to read longer posts (like reviews) and then I do sometimes forget to check back and catch up on reading. I greatly enjoy your style of writing and your great wit!

Haha, you KNOW *I* read your blog, but I'm commenting anyways. hehe

You could have put that poetry quote straight from the book, you know. ;-) I like the quote better in the book. LIMM

Hey, Miss Dashwood!

I've been reading your blog for a few months now, but I can't remember how I found it. Silly me. : ) I absolutely LOVE period dramas - they make up most of my favorite movies and books - so when I found out about your blog (somehow), I instantly became a huge fan!

I also quoted you on my blog... hope that's okay! : ) I can take it off if you want... it's the 'Random Silliness' post. I *love* the Scarlet PImpernel books, so when I saw your post, I just had to quote it!

I love your blog and hope you don't mind my frequent visits!
"Eowyn"

PS: Here's where you can find me and my random ramblings about nothing in particular - movies and books I like most of the time, then my writing when I feel like it. : ) www.inklingspress.blogspot.com

I love that quote by Squire Hamley (Michael Gambon did a great portrayal as always). Thanks for reminding me of this gem!

Hey. I just wanted you to know I am reading your blog, as often as possible. How I discovered it?! Well... I'm not actually sure. I believe it was in September, about a year after I had discovered my obsession for Les Misérables, and for some reason, in September I was going through a particularily obsessive time, so I searched Les Misérables on google... and found your Les Mis week. I love your blog, because I think there's more we share than just our love for Les Misérables. You're doing a really good job here. By the way, I can't wait to read what you think about the Les Misérables movie (if you're going to watch it at all).
Anyway, thanks for the many wonderful hours reading your blog has brought me.
