Quote of the Week 16 and Final Poll

(I realize that this picture is from the lesser 25th Anniversary concert...
but I couldn't find a good picture from The Best One)

Will you join in our crusade? Who will be strong and stand with me?
Beyond the barricade is there a world you long to see?
Then join in the fight that will give you the right to be free!

Do you hear the people sing, singing the song of angry men?
It is the music of a people who will not be slaves again!
When the beating of your heart echoes the beating of the drums
There is a life about to start when tomorrow comes!

~Courfeyrac and Enjolras, Les Miserables: The Musical That Swept The World, In Concert (1995)

And yes, I'm still just the least tiniest bit obsessed... cough, cough.  A long and rapturous post will be forthcoming next week.  It is not at all cheating to post song lyrics for Quote of the Week--besides, it's my Quote of the Week.  Might I just say that if you have not heard this amazing song, let me beg you to take two minutes of your life and watch this.

Also, the two finalists have been determined! Congratulations to Hayden and Alexandra, and to everyone else who participated.  Please vote in the poll at the top of my sidebar---it closes at noon EST on Saturday the 28th, and then I shall announce the winner (though you'll all be able to see for yourselves by then).

You are starting to make me think that I'm horribly deprived because I've never read/watched/listened to anything from Les Miserables.

I see that I'm the first to vote. :) Alexandra's button is still making me want to laugh, even though I saw it a week ago.

You poor dear deprived creature! We must remedy this at once. You can begin your Enlightenment by watching "Do You Hear The People Sing?" because it's one of the fifteen best songs in the musical. :)

Seriously, though, I adore this musical and now I just want to convince everyone I know of its splendor and awesomeness.

I voted for 'One of us was silly' (even if the 'very's are left out...but then I am to "nice" about exact quotes...:P) because it's one of my favorite Period Drama quotes, and I don't exactly consider Tangled to be a P.D. ... and I personally haven't seen that Robin Hood series...although I am curious about it, especially since Mr. Thornton is in it. Tehe.

Melody,
Well, the picture was from a period drama (Robin Hood) and so the quote could be from just about anything. :) I haven't voted yet... I don't know if I could anyway. I'm only going to vote if there's a tie. And if there is... I don't know what I'll do. :)

Congrats to the winners... but like Melody, I feel it was a little unfair to use a Tangled quote.

It WAS hilarious, though. :D

Haha, well, I don't think it shouldn't have been included: that was just me voicing my logic on how I decided to vote. ;-)

Highly approve of the quote of the week. ;-)

Julia,
It wasn't unfair to use a Tangled quote: I stated in the rules that as long as you used a period drama picture, the caption could be anything you liked (even song lyrics). I think I confused everyone a little bit, though, sorry 'bout that!

Alexandra,
This used to be my favorite song EVER from Les Miz (used to be, haha--think "last week") but now it's one of my Five Absolute Favorites. No, ten. :P

I certainly am deprived then. I've see then 1998 film adaptation of Les Miserables (staring Liam Neeson as Jean Valjean) so I know the story a bit but I'm very ready to believe the book and musical are way better!
I've often wanted to watch a video version of the entire musical but am not sure which version is preferable, do you have a favorite? Which is "The Best One"? Also, does the musical accurately capture the story and feelings of the book?

Both buttons are so amazingly funny and clever it's hard to choose! :)

Miss Laurie,
Well, IMHO the 10th Anniversary Concert DVD of Les Miserables (also known as the Dream Cast Recording) is the best. It features the performers from the original productions in the USA and UK and is... well, just stunning. The musical is sung-through--in other words, almost all of it is in music form. The little dialogue that there is is spoken over music, and is incorporated into the forty-some songs. The concert DVD alone is over two and a half hours long... I don't know how long the entire musical would be! :)
So anyway, I recommend the 10th Anniversary DVD. And IMHO, it captures the essence of the book better than any other musical adaptation of a book that I've ever seen. It's really beautiful.
There are, however, a couple of songs/scenes that should be fast-forwarded and I can let you know which ones if you like.
