And the Winner Is...

North and South!

Seriously???
(Put down your rotten tomatoes, ladies.  I didn't actually react THAT way. Sure, I wanted Anne 2 to win, but I'm a gracious loser.  I hope.)

I will confess to feeling just a wee bit of disappointment... but I must say I don't have a surprised feeling.  It's a splendid ending, after all, even if it's not my favorite, and after all I DID host the poll to see what the universal favorite was.   And now the people too must rise have spoken, and North and South has won.

For your entertainment, I'm embedding the final scene, the version with Henry's bits cut out.  No one wants him hanging around pouting during this part, now do we?

Annnnnd... now I'm quite tempted just to go watch the whole movie again.

Hehee, I LOVE THAT ENDING!!! It’s so sweet, and it’s always like, “eeekk, he finally smiles!!!” and then you faint :P
Oh, I want to watch the whole movie again! I think most of us voted for North and South, because we LOVE Mr. Thornton so much! :P Although I still love Anne’s ending, but North and South is so….so…..SWEET!!! And ahh, at the end, and then you feel like flying into the clouds!
Ahem…sorry about that, I must remember to keep calm and carry on 

Ahem. Anyways. But yes. N&S has a splendid ending even if I do like Anne2 bettah. (However, my favorite was not even IN the last poll. :P)

Go North and South! And I love the picture. :)

Aww, I wanted Anne to win too! But oh well, I shall follow your example and endeavor to be a gracious loser! I love the ending of North and South too, but I suppose since I only saw it for the first time this year, it hasn't really had enough time to grow on me- whereas I feel like I've been watching Anne since I was a wee thing! You're right, Henry does rather take away from the beauty of it- but still I think it's so romantic!
This has been jolly good fun, Miss Dashwood!

Just picked North & South up from my local library this morning. Time to see what all the fuss is about! I've heard several people say that John Thornton has replaced Mr. Darcy as their favorite period hero- to which I respond with a face similar to Eddie's from your post. I confess I am predisposed to think ill of him (Mr. Thornton), simply because Mr. Darcy has always been my favorite and I can't imagine anyone taking his place. :) We shall see!

YES YES YES. ;)

This was such a hard one because I love the endings of North and South and Anne! But I love North and South soo much, so I had to choose that one in the end ;)
Thanks for doing this fun poll!

I love both the endings! Though I can't help but agree with you, Miss Dashwood. I LOVE Anne. It's my favorite and was my first "official" period drama. It got me started on all of this, so I can't help but love it so... don't get me wrong though, I admit that I greatly esteem (N&S), that I like (it.) ;) The ending had me smile and happy tears were glistening... no I didn't really cry, but very close to it! ;)

@ Mal - Pfffft, of course you chose North & South. ;) AND I KNOW WHHHHYYYYY....

North and South? I mean it's good, but NOT that good...it was always going to be Anne sequel, there's just no question! What are people thinking?!

YAY!!!!

While Anne 2 is pretty good (I'll never quite forgive the screenwriters for certain things they did) I voted for North and South. Sure the ending is different from the book and yes, in Victorian times it would not have happened, buuuuuttttttt, I must admit to liking it as well as I like the book ending. :D

And I'm apparently in the minority with actually liking Henry's pouting in that scene. Not because I like Henry (I don't) but because personally I think it adds more depth to the scene to see his reaction. :)

And now I want to see the whole movie again, too!!

I have been reading the book. If possible, Mr. Thornton is more wonderful in it then he was in the movie. If possible.

I really liked this movie. And the ending was very sweet. Though Henry's pouting always makes me snicker.

Hurray for North and South!!! :)

@Petie - how could have guessed??? ;) Haha you know me too well ;) But yeah, that's TOTALLY the reason why :)

I watch this movie because Jack does and she watches it a lot. I like the little boy best.

I am glad there are two more books in the Penderwicks series because it means I will have lots to read for awhile.

Nothing can beat the ending to Anne, the sequel. It's the best. North and South is good, yes, but Anne has a special place in my heart. And the theme song- one of my favorite pieces of music ever. I still feel like crying when I watch that part. ;-)

The ending to North and South is SO sweet and romantic. But then they have to go home and face his mother...

They're both wonderful endings... But I go with Anne. If I had voted, which I didn't see the poll in time! The only thing that could have possibly made it more romantical... (anyone else a Carol Ryre Brink fan? Catch that quip from Two are better than One?) is if the Anne director had included the whole storm where Anne finally realizes what the rest of us have known all along. I thought it was wonderful for Lucy to make Anne wait for a few days not knowing how Gil felt about her, give Anne a taste of the waiting Gilbert had done for so many years.... the ending could have been so much better. But it was still beautiful. And I'm still furious about the whole phony 'engagement' the director threw in between Christine and Gil.... can I hear a collective amen!?!

In my opinion the best part of the end of N&S is when he takes her hand. It's SO adorable. And the way he looks at her, and how nervous she's suddenly gotten! So sweet. I don't like all the kissing. Disgusting. Get married already.

Anyway... my 2 cents...

Look, Tween! We're not the only ones!! How entirely swellissimus!

Savannah, my dear, I think we should get to know you better. Indubitably. And have a nice long conversation about three sausages and masquerade parties and how the Rhine flows northward, and so forth and so on. :D (In the former bit of the comment I was talking to Cordy, by the way. Uhh--Miss Dashwood. I mean Miss Dashwood.)

Also. You hear an "amen" from my direction about the Christine thing in Anne2. ARGH.
"You see, Christine and I are engaged."
"NO. YOU ARE NOT EITHER."
:P

YEAAAAAAH! Your quote made me leap for joy, Miss Melody. I have yet to find ANYONE else that has read 'Two are Better than One' except those unsuspecting friends that I have literally forced the book into their hands. They loved me for it afterward though! Did you read the sequel 'Louise'? I read it a looooong time ago and remember only being disappointed in how little Chris and Cordy were in it! I really wanted to hear how the two girls end up with their respective husbands. 'Twould be so romantical.

Tween, indeed! We must go get our burnt matchsticks to prepare for next year's George Washington celebration. You and I are never going as clowns again!

Savannah,
Heehee! Well, Miss Dashwood has read it too, which is why I called her Tween. We regard it rather as our own particular novel and if you stick around this blog long enough, or read some of the archives, you will find all sorts of references to it that other people didn't get. ;D Anyway, we were both delighted by your comment (she has simply been to busy to join into this conversation); we have the same problem--nobody has read it unless it's recommended by ourselves! ;) (Well, except I had read it before when she asked me if I had. She was very pleased with me. It gave our friendship a sudden boost, hahahaha.)

Oh, Louly, you mean. I have indeed read it and loved it muchly. You should read it again, now that you know to expect Cordy and Chrys are only a few months older than in TABTO. ;) But really, they were in the story actually more than I expected. It seemed to have more of Chrys' point of view than the title character's. ;) (And Louly is hilarious. I kind of wish she'd have been a little in TABTO, too.)

Heehee, and it was rag dolls. ;D

Anyways. We are not the only two who love that book. How about that. :D Maybe there are more of us than we think. Perhaps we should form a fan club.
Hahaha kidding. :D

Oh, and I must ask you--how do YOU think "swellissimus" should be pronounced?

Savannah said...

Just now saw this, Melody! :) I'm terrible about checking back on things.

Yes, I do need to re-read the sequel. Perhaps I will enjoy it more!

I think it should be pronounced 'swell-iss-eh-mus'. Leastwise, that's how I do it!

Sorry to keep this so super short, but I must get things in order for my pre-5 AM wake up tomorrow. Going to help clean up after the Oklahoma Tornados with Samaritan's Purse. Prayers are much appreciated!
