Happy Birthday, Jane Austen Tag Questions

Yet Another Period Drama Blog

(Disclaimer: I have not seen, nor do I endorse the movie Becoming Jane; I just thought this picture was beautiful)

To kick off JA's birthday party, I present you with the Jane Austen's Birthday tag questions! (JA stands for Jane Austen, in case you didn't already guess that.  I'm just too lazy to type "Jane Austen" every single time.  Thank heavens her name wasn't Augusta Millicent Dinglehopper.)

Feel free to post these on your blog.  I'm eager to read your answers! (I'll probably post mine later in the week.)

1 - What was the first JA novel you ever read, and who introduced you to it?

2 - Which is your least favorite JA novel, and why?  (Everybody posts about their favorites... I want to know what's at the bottom of your list!)

3 - Who do you think is the funniest character JA ever created?

4 - Which JA villain[ess] do you love to hate?

5 - What's your favorite JA quote?

6 - If you were to "start" someone on JA, which book would you recommend to them first and why?

7 - What is your absolute favorite JA film adaptation and why?

8 - If you could authorize a new film adaptation of one of JA's novels, which would it be and why?

9 - Which JA character do you most identify with?

10 - If you could have lunch with JA today, what question would you most like to ask her?

11 - Is there any one thing that you think could have been improved upon in one (or all) of JA's books?  What is it and why?

12 - If you could have lunch with one of JA's characters today, who would it be and why?

13 - (optional) Why is Miss Dashwood so fond of asking "why"?

I'm answering mine in comment because my blog's privet.
1. Pride and Prejudice was my first. And my dear sister Miss Dashwood introduced it to me.
2. Mansfield park. I love it but it isn't as engaging as the others plus I don't like Edmund and heroes are a big thing for me. I like all the other Jane Austen heroes though.
3. Mr. Woodhouse. I absolutely shake with laughter every time he says something.
4. John Thorpe. He annoys me so much that I like reading about him.
5."Dearest loveliest Elizabeth"
6.Northanger Abby. It's the easiest to read. It is also nice and short and very happy. A good taste of her talent enough to get your feet wet and want more. I think Pride and Prejudice should be read last because it is the best.I wish i had read it last.
7. Emma 2009and P&P 95 tie. I cannot choose between them. They are so happy and they make me happy. That is the ultimate test of a movie. How does it make you feel?
8. Mansfield Park. Because their isn't any good one yet.
9.Emma Woodhouse: I love meddling and giving advice, I love a good joke, I'm bubbly and I.. oh don't know I just think we're a lot alike.
10. Could I take your picture? Did you ever meet a Mr. Collins.
11.In Mansfield park Edmund is not made a sympathetic character. And the proposals are often not included.
12. Mr. America! Sorry sorry. Emma Woodhouse.
13. Because she has been hanging around Buddy (our 4 year old neighbor) to much.

Can't wait to answer these! Actually I haven't read them all yet. School first, then pleasure. Yes, writing about an English Literature author is a great pleasure. Aren't I scholarly? ;-) ha just kidding

P.S. I liked your disclaimer. ;-) Sounds like something I would have said.
You haven't seen Our Mutual Friend, have you? Because I was just about to quote it. :P

P.P.S. Anne: I liked your answer to #13!!! haha!

Ooh, sounds fun! We had a sudden illness come up...oops...so I'm a bit behind on blogging...but I'll reply soon! :-)

oh, and I answered your question about Ben-Hur in that post's comments.

I love tags. :-)

And oops...I'm a "Becoming Jane" fan. (ducks). hahaha. A (positive)review for the blog is actually in the works. (ducks again) I *do* watch it with our filter...so I can't say I'd recommend it without one. :-)

Anyway! Looking forward to this!

I chose to answer mine in the comment box as well!

1. Pride and Prejudice was my first. I was supposed to read it for my schoolwork, but I loved it and wanted to read more.
2. Mansfield Park is my least favorite. I like Fanny quite a bit, but I just think that it's too slow and drags on too long.
3. Mr. Woodhouse is hands down the funniest. He's sweet and tries to do the best for everyone, but he just ends up being ridiculous. However, he never drives me crazy.
4. Fanny Dashwood and Caroline Bingley are the two women I love to hate, and Henry Crawford for the men.
5. My favorite Austen quote is probably, "The gentleman or lady who does not find pleasure in a novel must be unbearably stupid!" by my darling Henry Tilney. Probably not the exact quote, but I'm too lazy to look for it!
6. I would recommend P&P to begin. It's fun, funny, romantic, and all around pretty perfect.
7. My favorite Austen adaptation is the 1995 Sense and Sensibility. It's beautiful, wonderfully acted and cast, and just long enough.
8. I would like a new adaptation of Northanger Abbey. It's one of my favorite books, and I don't think either of the films fully justifies it.
9. Catherine Morland. I have felt like her more times than I can remember. She's such a great character.
10. Probably what she envisioned happening to her characters after the novel. What minor characters were married, how many children everyone had, where they lived, etc.
11. I think that Mansfield Park could be improved a bit. I think that Edmund fell in love with Fanny so quickly that it seemed more like rebound than true love.
12. Henry Tilney. He's amazing, sweet, witty, sensible, and I would be honored to spend five minutes with him.
